PwC SDC Office in Katowice: A Bas-Relief with the Spodek and Plenty of Brick

The PwC SDC office in Katowice is located on nine floors of the .KTW II office building in Katowice. The interiors combine modernity with industrialism, the traditions of the region with its business character.

The architects from The Design Group drew on references to the urban layouts characteristic of Katowice’s Giszowiec and Nikiszowiec districts. Keeping in mind the history and architecture of these settlements built over a hundred years ago for mine workers, they decided to make brick one of the more important elements of the interior arrangement. Inspiration for the arrangement also came from the historical connection of Silesia’s residents with coal mines.

In the context of the dominant arrangement elements associated with Silesian identity, the reception area deserves special mention. Particularly spectacular is the concrete bas-relief depicting the layout of Katowice’s Culture Zone, where the KTW office buildings are located. On the other side stands an openwork wall made of solid brick.
