Sanofi Introduces the Work X 2.0 Concept, Combining Nature and Technology in Its New Office

13 May 2024 – Sanofi is redefining work organisation by introducing the global Work X 2.0 strategy in Poland. This innovative approach to shaping the work environment meets the new expectations of employees and is based on sustainable development. The consequence of these changes is the move to a new office in the newly opened Lixa complex in Warsaw’s dynamically developing business district.

Work X 2.0, short for Work Experience, reflects Sanofi’s innovative approach to the workplace of the future. It means implementing modern methods of work organisation that allow employees to decide how and where they want to perform their duties. The Work X 2.0 philosophy rests on three pillars: space, technologies supporting remote work and mobility, and an organisational culture of work based on trust and respect.

The impetus for introducing the Work X 2.0 concept was the planned change of the company’s headquarters and the move to the new Lixa office complex in the dynamically growing business centre of Warsaw’s Wola district. The company designing it, The Design Group TDG, and the project management firm CBRE Poland, were guided by the principle of sustainable development.

– The new office means something more for us than just a change of address. By opening the doors of the new office, we opened a new chapter in Sanofi’s history in Poland. The realisation of this project is the fulfilment of a professional dream for me, and the moment when the project transforms into a bustling office is a source of enormous satisfaction and joy. I am convinced that everyone will find a space for themselves here – emphasised Magdalena Misiuk, HSE & Office Manager, Workplace Experience, Sanofi sp. z o.o.

Space

One of the main assumptions of Work X 2.0 is the ability to choose a place in the varied office space that is best suited to the tasks at hand. The office offers diverse places for collaboration and meetings. 75% of places are designed for teamwork in smaller and larger groups, including for organising large employee meetings such as Town hall meetings. There is also the option to work in peace and concentration, as well as in spaces requiring confidentiality. Additionally, various amenities are available, including a parent and child room equipped with a changing table, sofa and therapy lamp, green terraces, a microgreens farm, and a space for regular yoga sessions for employees. A Welcome Area was created with guests in mind, where company visitors can rest over a good coffee or comfortably work.

– Designing the office for Sanofi, we were aware of how high the expectations for the space were and how important a role it would play in the company’s new work concept. I am glad we met these expectations and hope the solutions will be appreciated by the main protagonists of this space – the Sanofi employees – said Konrad Krusiewicz, Architect & CEO of The Design Group.

Technology and Mobility

As part of Work X 2.0, Sanofi is introducing advanced technologies supporting remote work as well as employee mobility. Applications such as Appÿ and Zonifero facilitate task management and communication in teams whose members are in different locations.

Organisational Culture

Work X 2.0 promotes an organisational culture based on trust and respect. It supports the creation of a welcoming atmosphere, offers exceptional experiences that strengthen bonds between employees and a sense of belonging to the organisation. The office is accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities. For them, signage has also been prepared in the Braille system, and the furniture has special handles.

– As an employer, we listen to the needs of our employees. The initiation of the Work X 2.0 work concept is one of the most important events in our company. Practically every employee of our company was involved in the year-and-a-half-long project. A beautiful office has been created that meets the needs of all our employees. It is wonderful, but most importantly it was designed, created and developed by each employee of our company, for the employees of our company. I am proud to be part of such a creative and fantastic team – said Barbara Duniec, People & Culture Head Poland, Total Wellbeing Central & South Europe, Sanofi sp. z o.o.

Sustainable Development

Sustainable development is of great importance to Sanofi, so when choosing the office building the company was guided by its people- and environment-friendly character, confirmed by Green Building, BREEAM Excellent, WELL Health&Safety and Active Score certifications. The office was designed with minimising environmental impact in mind, using an intelligent building management system, energy-efficient lighting solutions and monitoring of energy and water consumption.

A particularly interesting example of recycling is the artistic three-dimensional mosaic adorning one of the office walls, created from materials left over from the construction process. Its author is Aleksandra Zawistowska, artist, designer and architect. Part of the office was furnished with renovated vintage furniture. The office colour scheme was designed in muted tones with a high degree of exposure to natural sunlight. Employees can get some fresh air on terraces filled with greenery, seasonal herbs, and can enrich their breakfasts with sprouts grown on the office microgreens farm.
